I believe in the free speech that liberals used to believe in, the economic freedom that conservatives used to believe in, and the personal freedom that America used to believe in.

Sarah Palin Far Behind Huckbee And Romney In Head-To-Head Matchups

by @ 12:01 pm on October 19, 2009. Filed under Mike Huckabee, Mitt Romney, Politicos & Pundits, Politics, Sarah Palin

More bad news for Palin-istas from the latest Rasmussen Report poll:

Former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin’s forthcoming autobiography has been at the top of the Amazon book charts for weeks, and it hasn’t even been released yet. At least in the eyes of the political Left, she is now perhaps America’s most visible national Republican.

But new Rasmussen Reports national telephone surveying finds Palin losing handily in face-to-face march-ups with her two likeliest challengers for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination.

Among likely Republican primary voters, Palin now trails former Arkansas governor-turned-Fox-TV-host Mike Huckabee by 20 points – 55% to 35%.

When her opponent is ex-Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, Palin loses by 15 – 52% to 37%.

(…)

Twenty-one percent (21%) of primary voters also say Palin is the GOP candidate they would least like to see win the party’s presidential nomination. Just nine percent (9%) say the same of Romney, and eight percent (8%) feel that way about Huckabee.

Time to give up the ghost, guys.

(re-posting to this more recent, relevant thread)

There are a couple things that the GOP can do.
First option: ambush. Imagine a candidate who comes out of nowhere and steamrolls the opposition. No one saw it coming.
Marco Rubio had caught my eye awhile back, but I’m sure there are others. It would give intelligent candidates with a fresh perspective a chance, thereby widening GOP appeal. It might also impress the hell out of some, because instead of saying “Yeah, we know we suck. What’s that? Somebody somewhere thinks we should remain on the suck-train for the next decade? Sure, we can do that,” the public would instead see a GOP that refuses to suck and will reach to any height to embrace its (and more importantly, America’s) most justifiable ideals.
Second option: roll over and cry in its milk like a bunch of pansies by nominating/electing candidates that are well-known by the public in the same sense as National Enquirer- everyone knows what they are and that they are not healthy to embrace, but they embrace them anyway because that’s what they know.
I don’t want the second option GOP. I want a firebombing, Rambo-esque GOP (with a lot less of the blood/gore but with metaphorically similar asskickery) with candidates who think for themselves and appeal to the people without letting others bully them into things.

We need a modern versions of Ronald Reagan and Jack Kemp.
