Will Scozzafave Endorse A Democrat In NY-23 ?

by @ 12:02 pm on November 1, 2009.

A fascinating tid-bit in an editorial from the Watertown Daily Times endorsing Bill Owens in the 23rd Congressional District race in New York:

Dierdre K. Scozzafava’s decision to suspend her campaign for the 23rd Congressional District seat is a shocking development in what had already been an extraordinary race.

In her statement Saturday morning, the assemblywoman explained the reasons behind her decision: “It is increasingly clear that pressure is mounting on many of my supporters to shift their support. Consequently, I hereby release those individuals who have endorsed and supported my campaign to transfer their support as they see fit to do so.”

During the day Saturday, she began to quietly and thoughtfully encourage her supporters to vote for Democrat William L. Owens.

As A.J. Strata notes, conservatives cheering Scozzafava’s withdrawal today may come to regret it come Wednesday morning:

If Hoffman loses Tuesday it is because of the same scorched Earth tactics from the far right that gave us Obama, Pelosi and Reid. Even if he ekes win, it will in spite of the arrogant ‘true’ right. This country is being ruined by fringe fanatics.

And with people like Michelle Malkin laughably calling Scozzafava, who at worst is a moderate Republican in the mold of, well, pretty much every other elected Republican in New England over the past 20 years, a “radical leftist,” I can’t really say that A.J. is wrong.

But there wasn’t too much difference between Owens and Scozzy.

One was endorsed by ACORN and the other was endorsed by SEIU.. those are pretty much different sides of the same coin.

Thank you for demonstrating the problem with so-called “moderates.” They really are Democrats, without the courage to call themselves such.

A tent big enough to include the likes of Scozzafava is no tent at all. There’s nothing “moderate” about endorsing homosexual “marriage,” abortion on demand, and utter destruction of an employee’s right to a secret-ballot in determining whether to get union representation.

It’s what Daniel Patrick Moynihan described as “defining deviancy down.”
