I believe in the free speech that liberals used to believe in, the economic freedom that conservatives used to believe in, and the personal freedom that America used to believe in.

Democrats Support Separation Of Church And State, Except When They Don’t

One of the most unusual moments during yesterday’s health care debate came when the House Democrats decided to tout support from an explicitly religious institution:

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops delivered a critical endorsement to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Saturday by signing off on late-night agreement to grant a vote on an amendment barring insurance companies that participate in the exchange from covering abortions.

“Passing this amendment allows the House to meet our criteria of preserving the existing protections against abortion funding in the new legislation,” the Bishops wrote in a letter to individual members. “Most importantly, it will ensure that no government funds will be used for abortion or health plans which include abortion.”

The group goes on to say, “The Conference will remain vigilant and involved through this entire process to assure that these essential provisions are maintained and included in the final legislation.

Democrats accuse Republicans, rightly so in some cases in my opinion, of wrongly trying to inject religion into public policy debates.

Isn’t that exactly what they did here ?

I don’t understand the connection between the article cited and the headline here. I don’t see anything in the article about Democrats anywhere touting this endorsement, only that the endorsement exists.

Can you clarify the logic? Because it looks like you’re engaging in a bit of a leap here, one that makes you look a bit sensationalistic.

Maybe the cited article originally had a headline that was more in line with what you’re claiming, and that was what set you off, but shouldn’t you have read a little deeper into the article first?

A correction might be in order if you want to preserve your credibility.

    Liberals are hypocrites.

  3. James Young says:

Of course Democrats are happy to inject religion into their politics … except when the question is marriage, or abortion.

Unfortunately, when they do so, they simply demonstrate their lack of understanding of the imperative of Christian charity, which is impossible with state involvement and compulsion.
