Lou Dobbs Quits CNN

by @ 11:34 pm on November 11, 2009.

It looks like we won’t have Lou Dobbs to kick around anymore, at least not on CNN:

Lou Dobbs, the longtime CNN anchor whose anti-immigration views have made him a TV lightning rod, said Wednesday that he is leaving the cable news channel effective immediately.

Sitting before an image of an American flag on his television set, he said “some leaders in media, politics and business have been urging me to go beyond the role here at CNN and to engage in constructive problem solving as well as to contribute positively to the great understanding of the issues of our day.”

“I’m considering a number of options and directions,” Mr. Dobbs added.

There have been rumors that Dobbs may be headed to Fox News or Fox Business Channel, but, so far at least, that doesn’t appear to be the case.

We shall see.

There isn’t any good time slot available on Fox News. But Dobbs would be shot in the arm for Fox Business.

On Fox business Imus is starting to draw a solid morning crowd. Positioning Dobbs in the late afternoon or evening would be a great ratings boost, and would be a double crediblility booster for the fledgling outlet in view of Dobbs CCN origins as an economic correspondent. Fox would be interested for sure.

Dobbs statement suggests he is looking for a lot more than another job. A new gig with Fox Business could be a great way for him to get out there politically, just as Mike Huckabee has kept his hat in the ring over at Fox News.

There is something in it for both sides.

This will help CNN immensely. They really lost a lot of credibility trying to imitate Faux News.
