Old Geezer,

Hey, last year I had my surgery turned down by my private insurance company. Luckily I had a back-up insurance - good ol' govt tricare/champus that paid for it. I'd rather have the govt decide my health care than a bunch of greedy insurance executives. Secondly, Obama said he hated the fact that the national health care reform couldn't pay for the woman's right to choose but he understands the city he is in and none of the gov't insurance currently pays for that. He regrets it, but it's not a battle he can currently fight. He's not going to hold up all the U.S. Citizens that have no health care at all.

I don't want to argue for or against abortion, either. That's just what Obama said on television last summer.

As soon as there is a public option available, I'm dropping that stupid private insurance policy that turned down my surgery. It sickens me when I think of all the premiums paid into it.

Old geezer,

I'm not going to make an argument here for or against abortion, but your type of argument is a false equivication that ticks me off with this whole subject. This issue with abortion is that it is potentialty a rights conflict. If indeed a fetus is a human life than it is perfectly legit for the government to "make your medical decisions." Police restrict peoples liberty every day when they arrest people for murder, assault and armed robery. Why is t ok for the government to prevent these peoples' right to chose their actions?... because those actions violate the rights of another individual. Argue that a fetus is indeed not human life, or that it doesnt merit a right to it, and then it will flow through that government has no right to restrict the liberty of a woman.

I have never understood how we are to oppose letting a bureaucrat make our medical decisions for us and yet let a bureaucrat take choice away from a woman and her doctor in the same breath.

Great snippet. It's pretty much why I registered Republican only long enough to vote for Ron Paul in the closed primaries.
