Below The Beltway

I believe in the free speech that liberals used to believe in, the economic freedom that conservatives used to believe in, and the personal freedom that America used to believe in.

Chart Of The Day: The Massachusetts Miracle

by @ 9:31 am on January 19, 2010.

Unless something very surprising happens today, Massachusetts will elect it’s first Republican Senator since Edward Brooke left office in 1979 and the seat once held by Ted Kennedy and John F. Kennedy, Jr. will be held by a Republican for the first time since Henry Cabot Lodge Jr left office in 1953.

Are you listening President Obama ?

    Welcome back.

Yah, Coakley, a former state att’y general, was the bonehead pick of the year for the Democrats. She’s made so many gaffs that she’s looking really out-of-touch with everyday life in Massachusetts. Not that I won’t be utterly astonished if Scott Brown pulls it off – he’ll not only be the only Repub. senator in decades, but he’ll be the first Repub. in the Mass. congressional delegation in years.

  3. Doug Mataconis Says:

As I’ve said a few times this week on Twitter, Martha Coakley is the Creigh Deeds of Massachusetts — even worse actually because there’s really no reason she shouldn’t have closed the door on this election weeks ago.

  4. Let's Be Free Says:

If Brown is the new Henry Cabot lodge, then I guess that would make Dick Cheney the new Richard Nixon.

Nice to see an entry from you again. When I read about how Ms Coakley handled the Amirault issue, I was surprised the Dems had put her up for this office. She is not qualified to do the job she’s in, to say nothing of being in the US Senate. Although the standards for holding office there are suffering some level of desuetude. See Burris.
