Below The Beltway

I believe in the free speech that liberals used to believe in, the economic freedom that conservatives used to believe in, and the personal freedom that America used to believe in.

I actually get goosebumps reading that…
    Live free or die, baby!

  2. Ben Vos, Nashville, TN says:

Is a man truly free if he cannot obtain life-saving medical care? Is a man free if he must choose between paying his mortgage and paying for life-sustaining medicine? Is a man free if he must remain in a job with a tyrannical employer who takes his labor and fails to pay a decent wage? No. This is not freedom. This is tyranny. I’m with Patrick Henry AND Barack Obama. Economic justice is the key to genuine freedom. We must work to create ladders of opportunity so that no one is forced to go bankrupt simply because he gets sick.

    Why can’t he?

    >Is a man free if he must choose between paying his mortgage and paying for life-sustaining medicine?

    Why must he choose?

    > Is a man free if he must remain in a job with a tyrannical employer who takes his labor and fails to pay a decent wage?

    Why must he remain?

I’m afraid you missed the point of Henry’s speech entirely.

We went down to Williamsburg with our three kids the week before Christmas and listened to a re-enactment of that speech before the colonial House of Burgesses. It sent chills (not from the winter cold) down my spine as I thought how appropos it was of what we now endure.

Ben Vos, you are missing something huge — there is no such thing as bankruptcy anymore. You owe the state now before anything and anyone else, including youself. You cannot rid yourself of the burden or free yourself of the tyranny. Your obligations first and foremost and forever while on this earth are to the King in the form of Obama/Reed/Pelosi.
