Here’s what one conservative blogger had to say about President Obama’s rhetorical question about Sarah Palin’s nuclear weapons expertise:
Palin’s view of nuclear weapons was shaped by her stint as the commander in chief of the Alaskan National Guard, our first line of defense against Soviet nuclear weapons. Obama has held his same views since he was a stoner college student and has showed no signs of maturing.
Which of the two would you trust?
This isn’t the first time we’ve heard this stupid argument of course. Back in August 2008, Steve Doocy at Fox News was the first one to make the claim that Palin’s experience as Governor of Alaska somehow endowed her with foreign policy experience. Cindy McCain repeated that comment shortly thereafter, and the McCain campaign continued to push the claim even after the Commander of the Alaska National Guard that neither he nor Palin participated in missile defense or any other national military policy areas.
Not surprisingly, a perusal of the website for the Alaska National Guard reveals no indication that they are involved in nuclear weapons in any way. And I have a feeling the United States Air Force would be surprised if they did.
And what can we learn from this blogger ? Don’t make stupid arguments, because you just end up looking ridiculous.
Update @ 5:00pm — The blogger in question has admitted their “mistake”:
Update: I stand corrected. Palin does not have any experience with the AANG. The 49th Missile Defense Battalion AANG, Fort Greely is (literally) the first line of defense against Soviet nukes with 25-30 anti-ICBMs, but they do not report to the governor.
No shit Sherlock. Next time, think before you type.
And, oh yea, Confederate Yankee decided to delete all the comments that had been posted that post detailing just how wrong he was.
