I believe in the free speech that liberals used to believe in, the economic freedom that conservatives used to believe in, and the personal freedom that America used to believe in.

Sarah Palin Was For Deepwater Offshore Drilling Before She Was Against It

by @ 1:59 pm on June 2, 2010. Filed under Dumbasses, Politicos & Pundits, Politics, Sarah Palin

Last night Sarah Palin, former temporary Governor of Alaska and official wacky pundit of Twitter and Facebook, had this to say:

PalinDrill21

The obvious implication, of course, is that if we’d just listened to the “Drill Baby Drill” crowd, we wouldn’t have to worry about dealing with an oil rig disaster far out at sea under a mile or more of water (instead we’d be dealing with one close to the shore, but I digress).

The problem is that the Queen of the “Drill Baby Drill” chant never made a distinction between deepwater and other forms of drilling:

Here, for example, is Sarah Palin at an October 21, 2008, campaign event in Reno, with emphasis added:

PALIN: John [McCain] and I have to adopt an all-of-the-above approach to meet America’s great energy challenge for you. That means harnessing alternative sources, like wind, and solar, and biomass, and geothermal.

(APPLAUSE)

And we will develop clean-coal technology. And we will safely drill for the billions of barrels of oil that we have underground, including off-shore.

(APPLAUSE)

We will drill here, we’ll drill now, and that’s when you start the chant. Yes.

AUDIENCE: Drill, baby, drill! Drill, baby, drill! Drill, baby, drill! Drill, baby, drill! Drill, baby, drill! Drill, baby, drill!

PALIN: You bet. We’ll drill, baby, drill, and we’ll mine, baby, mine, as your placard said, yes.

Nevada, it is for our nation’s security’s sake and this is for our nation’s economic prosperity and job opportunities in our future. We need American energy resources brought to you by American ingenuity and produced by American workers.

And here she is the day before in Loveland, Colorado:

PALIN: And whether Joe Biden approves it or not, we will develop clean coal technology and we will safely drill for the billions of barrels of oil that are warehoused underground, including our offshore sources. We will drill here and drill now. (Cheers, applause.) Drill, baby, drill. Drill, baby, drill.

And three days before that, in West Chester, Ohio:

PALIN: It’s nonsense, the road that we have about on. And we will change that. We will safely drill for the billions of barrels of oil that we have here in the U.S.

(APPLAUSE)

AUDIENCE: Drill, baby, drill! Drill, baby, drill! Drill, baby, drill!

PALIN: Drill, baby, drill. That’s right.

(APPLAUSE)

AUDIENCE: Drill, baby, drill! Drill, baby, drill! Drill, baby, drill!

(APPLAUSE)

PALIN: It also means safely tapping into our offshore sources, safely, environmentally safe.

So no Sarah, you weren’t saying “Drill Baby Drill” because you were concerned about the safety of deepwater offshore drilling. You were telling us it was nothing to worry about.

I’m at a point where I’m happy to welcome the V’s to invade our planet and present us with Blue Energy to solve our worlds energy problems. =D

  2. CWAndrews says:

People like Palin know we can now pull up every thing they ever said and throw it back at them, but they (correctly) count on the fact that their followers will never hear it from those sources because the only thing they listen to is Rush/Faux News. The arrogance is astounding. Say anything, lie, contradict yourself, because most people will believe everything you say at this moment and will never check the facts or what you said before, and if they did they wouldn’t believe it anyway.

  3. dpolitico says:

I don’t know if I’d give her that much credit to realize that she advocated offshore drilling. I think she just says whatever pops into her head without much thought of anything. You can definitely count on the Palindrones to not fact check her on anything, which is astonishing, scary, and downright Palinesque.

  4. DEO says:

I don’t think we are going to have to worry about ANY of it. The damage is done. No one is telling us to what extent….we haven’t even begun to experience the repercussions of all this.
The fact that $arah is still shooting off her mouth is proof positive that she is insane. That means a good chunk of Americans, her PalinBOTS, are also insane.

Go back to complaining about your neighbor Joe, $arah, that is about all you can handle.

  5. S85 says:

Except the point you missed is that shallow water drilling is SAFER

  6. And the point you missed is that Sarah Palin never said anything about not drilling in deep water during the whole Drill Baby Drill bullshit

  7. Mark Sturgess says:

Obimity Obamity Calamity Bo who is going to clean up after you.
What’s next? An A-Bomb Abomi-nation to follow too.
