Michelle Bachmann Was Against Government Takeovers Before She For Them

by @ 1:12 pm on June 3, 2010. Filed under Dumbasses, Michelle Bachmann, Politicos & Pundits, Politics

On March 23, 2010, Congresswoman Michelle Bachmann spoke out against the government take over of health care:

On June 1st, 2010, she wondered why the Obama Administration wasn’t commandeering every private boat in the Gulf of Mexico:

Now I happen to agree with Bachmann in her opposition to ObamaCare, but I have to wonder what part of the Constitution authorizes the President to direct to Coast Guard to commandeer private property.

How about you Michelle ?

To be fair, if you substitute “hire” for “commandeer” she has a point. Or maybe not, I didn’t sleep last night. Hopefully Rep. Bachmann was just caught up in the partisan moment and wouldn’t really want the Feds to seize private property. What history tells us about her ilk says I’m dreaming.

As to the overall criticism many on the Left are making against those who advocate for smaller government, accusing them of being hypocrites for wanting more action by the Federal government in this crisis, I don’t think that’s fair. Surely Federal response to a natural disaster (whether or not it’s man-made)to minimize the damage this one poses may fall within a definition of a limited government. It is, after all, uniquely positioned to do so.

Just because someone favors limited government, doesn’t mean they want no government at all. (Though they probably want more than I do. heh.)
